About Andrea Toepel
Andrea was born to John and Linda Toepel in Asheville, North Carolina. She was welcomed into the family at the pivotal time when John Toepel was developing his principles for Concept Golf. Shortly after she was born, the family moved to the Raleigh area where Andrea later went on to earn a degree in Industrial Engineering at North Carolina State University (Go Wolfpack!!!).
Andrea’s path to playing golf was interesting. She was obviously around golf her entire life, but it wasn’t until she was in high school that she took an interest in playing the game. She approached her father one afternoon when she was a junior. She wanted to join the newly-formed girl’s golf team at her high school. She said “Dad, I want to be on the girl’s golf team…and I want to be good enough to earn a letter jacket.” John was delighted to say the least and he said he would love to teach her. Andrea then said, “It starts next week”.
John used the Concept Golf principles to teach his daughter to play. At the age of 16, with one week of golf under her belt, Andrea learned enough about the swing and the game to shoot a 50 on her first 9-hole tournament, sufficient for 2nd place. She placed either 1st or 2nd in every other tournament for the next 2 years and she earned letters for both her junior and senior years. Andrea was later offered a walk-on spot on the NCSU girl’s golf team, but declined to focus her energy on completing her demanding Engineering curriculum.
Andrea and her father enjoyed playing the game together until his passing in the spring of 2007. Andrea vowed to continue her father’s passion and has since taken over the business. While Concept Golf is in its second generation, the principles that were designed by John Toepel still hold true. Andrea wants to continue her father’s dream so that she can share the same gift that she was given by her father.
Andrea and her husband currently live just outside of Raleigh. They met on the golf course.
